Description

Dermatomyositis is an uncommon autoinflammatory disease that mainly causes symptoms in the skin and muscles.  The symptoms are variable from patient to patient.   Affected populations can be grouped into juvenile and adult dermatomyositis.  The juvenile group tends to have gastrointestinal issues as well. Polymyositis, covered in its own profile, is a subtype.

Typical Age of onset

Childhood - 5 to 15
Adults - late 40’s to early 60’s
