Do you experience flare-ups during the winter months?
Back in August, we wrote about how heat may affect those with autoimmune diseases. Unfortunately, the cold weather may also induce flare-ups for some autoimmune diseases such as arthritis, psoriasis, and lupus.
The reason some autoimmune diseases flare up in colder temperatures is unknown, but, it is suspected that changes in barometric pressure—that tend to occur during the winter months—can trigger pain receptors and cause flares, especially in those with arthritis. Those with autoimmune skin disorders like psoriasis may experience flare-ups due to dry air. During the winter months, it's especially important to track when you experience flare-ups. The Autoimmune Registry has partnered with Journal My Health to help aid you in tracking your health to better understand the conditions and triggers that affect your life. The best way to minimize or prevent flare-ups is by staying as warm as possible by layering up and using hand warmers. Have you experienced flare-ups during the winter months? Share your story by making a video here! You can also share your story anonymously by selecting anonymous mode.
