Why are clinical trials important for autoimmune diseases?

One of the Autoimmune Registry's goals has always been to support research by connecting patients to clinical trials. New treatments and therapies require regulatory approval before they can be prescribed to the public. That approval generally requires the treatments to be tested on a large number of patients in a clinical trial setting to demonstrate effectiveness for treating specific diseases.

Why are clinical trials important for autoimmune diseases?

However, there is evidence that up to 40% of clinical trials fail because researcher can't find enough patients to enroll in the trials. When that happens, we never even get a chance to find out whether that particular test drug could have helped patients. Ironically, many patients with autoimmune diseases struggle with their existing medication regimen and are willing to try new medications that may help them.

In order to bridge this gap, the Autoimmune Registry is now recruiting for and supporting clinical trials with Patient Navigators. Our Patient Navigators are autoimmune disease patients themselves, who will be available to answer questions and address concerns. There are 2 trials that we are currently supporting: one for patients with warm autoimmune hemolytic anemia and the other for patients with dermatomyositis.

If you have any questions about these trials or clinical trials in general, please contact us. Net income from these recruitments will go toward a research fund and our registrants will be able to vote on what research projects we invest in.

To support the Autoimmune Registry, please join our registry or share it with a friend who has an autoimmune condition. Donations are also greatly appreciated!
